The No List
What you will never find here.
Every store publishes what it sells.
DIXY’S openly declares what it chooses not to sell.
This is our No-List.
It exists because we believe selection should be transparent, coherent and observable over time.
Cosmetic ingredients
We do not select brands that use ingredients we consider too aggressive, unclear or inconsistent with the everyday wellbeing of the dog’s skin and coat.
Harsh surfactants (SLS, SLES, ALS, Cocamide DEA etc.)
They can disrupt the skin’s natural barrier, contributing to dryness, irritation, redness, itching and weaker or duller coats.
For the complete list of ingredients excluded from our selection, you may contact info@dixystore.com
Parabens
Controversial preservatives that we prefer to avoid within our selection. We favour formulations built around skin balance and everyday gentleness rather than extended commercial shelf life.
Undeclared synthetic fragrances
If a formulation is not clear, it does not enter the selection.
Fragrance is not what takes care of a dog’s skin. We prefer formulations built around function and gentleness rather than strong scent.
Artificial colourants and synthetic shine sprays
Used mainly for visual effect, without providing any real benefit for the dog.
Some shine sprays create artificial gloss by coating the coat with silicones, dyes or film-forming ingredients.
If a coat does not appear naturally healthy and glossy, the issue is often not a “lack of shine”, but daily management, harsh shampoos, nutrition or imbalance of the skin.
We prefer supporting the real health of the coat rather than temporarily masking it.
Example commonly found in commercial shine sprays:
CI 17200 (RED 33), CI 42090 (BLUE 1), PARFUM (FRAGRANCE)
Materials and fabrics
Never used in the clothing, harnesses or accessories we select.
Fleece
Can increase friction, static electricity and matting, especially on long, curly or continuously growing coats.
It is often marketed as a “warm” or “protective” material, yet it tends to trap heat and moisture without offering real breathability.
Over time, it can make the coat more difficult to manage, contributing to matting and dullness.
Wool sourced from non-declared mulesing-free supply chains
We do not select garments made from wool sourced from supply chains that do not guarantee certified mulesing-free practices.
Mulesing is a practice used in some intensive sheep farming systems involving the removal of sections of skin to prevent parasitic infections, and is often debated due to animal welfare concerns.
We prefer working with companies that clearly declare origin, traceability and ethical sourcing standards, such as Harris Tweed and other certified suppliers.
For DIXY’S, the quality of a material is not only about appearance or durability, but also about how it is produced.
Product categories
Categories we have chosen not to include in the selection.
Retractable leads
Often marketed as tools that increase freedom during walks.
In practice, the constant tension of the tape or cord can affect control, posture and movement management, increasing the risk of accidents for both dog and handler.
Harnesses that compress the shoulders or chest
Chest harnesses or structures that restrict natural shoulder extension can interfere with movement, posture and everyday comfort.
Often visually striking in photographs, but frequently designed more around aesthetics than canine biomechanics.
Many owners also report that dogs slip out of these harnesses more easily compared to more stable structures.
Coercive collars
We do not select tools based on compression, pain or electrical stimulation.
Rope collars
Not part of the DIXY’S selection because continuous friction around the neck can contribute to matting, coat breakage or skin irritation, especially in long or curly-coated dogs.
Treats, supplements or food with unclear labels
We reject products that do not clearly declare manufacturing facility, origin or detailed composition.
If we do not know where a food is produced, who produces it and according to which standards, it does not enter the selection.
We prefer knowing the companies directly and studying their formulations, production methods and philosophy before selecting their products.
We do not follow opaque rebranding or mass-production logic without transparency. Every product must pass precise criteria before entering the DIXY’S shelves.
Marketing practices
Things we choose not to do, even when they work commercially:
- Artificial urgency, countdowns and pressure-based discounts
- We do not believe in strategies designed to push impulsive purchases or create artificial anxiety around a product.
What we do instead:
- Informative newsletters and educational guides
- We help people better understand what they are buying, what their dog truly needs and what often is not necessary.
Direct contact
We believe in a clearer and more conscious relationship with customers, based on dialogue, questions and real observation of the dog’s needs.
The No-List remains an evolving part of our selection philosophy.
If a choice no longer reflects our criteria, it will be reviewed.
